The Damn Newsletter -- Life is What You Make It

Greetings and Salutations,

Thank you, thank you, thank you...you're far to kind...hold your applauds this is your newsletter...not mine!!!

Yes, we are back and we are live from my hometown of Shreveport, LA. Yeah, Shreveport. It's only been 6 months but the "Kang" of Shreveport (Not King) is back. (yes, it's a new nickname...you like it?) I'm here at home gaining weight as type...you all know how Mike's cooking is...lol. So much to talk about...Where do I begin? I have so much to tell you.

Well since I have so much built up, I am going to go on a newsletter binge. I will however spread it out to once a week. (Yes like the good ol' days) I also am going to post the newsletters on a new medium...http://thedamnnewsletter.blogspot.com/ in addition to the traditional email format. And while I'm in the promoting mood. IDLE of the Peach is having 2 shows this weekend. The first one is Friday September 18th at the Naked Bean in Shreveport, Louisiana starting at 7pm and the second one is Saturday September 19th at Mojo's starting at 10p. For more details as always hit me up!!!

It's shout out time!!! Honestly I owe about 17,000 shout outs. It's not that I'm behind on giving them out but am fortunate to have so many amazing people that I know and you all deserve time. So I will drop the Shout Out of the Week by two for a while...So Shout Outs of the Week go to Krissy Brierre and Amber Parker.

Krissy, I owe you this honor and as you know I never make a promise that I can't keep that ain't me. Your friendship and insight is valued. I am forever in debt to you for giving me "a shot" of life when I needed it the most. I know our spontaneous meeting was for a reason. I am forever grateful to you.

Amber, you are equally deserving of this prestigious honor. I am so proud of you. I told you a long time ago you were going to get everything you wanted if you have patience (I know that sounds strange coming from me, right?) And now, you have your PH.D and you are engaged...I 'm looking forward to the free eats at the party Saturday...lol.

Okay, it's been a while since the last newsletter. I think you all know why. It's the same thing every year. Towards mid year I do get in a funk, that leads to sadness, that leads to depression. Hey, I'm nothing if not consistent. This time is different however. How you may ask? Well it's not because I didn't listen to Boyz II Men's version of "Can You Stand the Rain" (one of you all took that CD from me so I WILL be repurchasing that...) or it is the fact that my depression food of choice is now Double Chocolate Milanos and Sam Adams beer. The difference is that it is only August and I am turning the corner. Why? Because I realized life is what you make it. I've always heard the term but never really thought about the actual words until now. Life happens. You get good things and bad, rain and sunshine, music from Jay-Z and music from Soulja Boy...(now if that doesn't drill my point home...), but it's how you react to it. When bad things happen like homelessness, no job, no car, end of a romance, etc. happens you can either crawl somewhere and cry (which is easy...believe me) or you can battle back. Most of us know that. The rough part is when all of those things (and then some) happen at the same time. Battling back may not be the obvious of choices in that situation. I mean how can anyone conquer that combination of things? From my experience, you have to rely on what got you to the dance. Whether it's your smarts, mental toughness, creativity, personality, or your determination, we all have gifts to utilize. We all have friends, family, and other loved one that will be there to support you. And of course you all have me as I have you all but...

Those are just my thoughts...right or wrong...just what I was feeling at the time!!!
