The Damn Newsletter: Three Reasons that I will be cheering for Manny Pacquiao this weekend.

Greetings and Salutations,

This week I wanted to talk about something that seems to be on everybody mind in the sports world...the fight of all fights, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.  This fight is being built as the biggest in the history of boxing and before it is all said and done fiscally it may be.

But the question everyone has is...who you got? Who are you rooting for? Here's why I am rooting for Manny over Floyd...

Mayweather is obnoxious

Okay...you can call this reason flimsy or you can say I'm hating but the bottom line is he is obnoxious.  Most Mayweather fans will talk about he's undefeated and he has a reason to be confident.  Confidence is the hallmark of a champion but Floyd has taken it over the top.  Muhammad Ali was confident but his cockiness entertained millions.  Tyson was confident but it fueled the "baddest man on the planet" persona he branded.  Floyd tosses money around and talks shit without merit or functionality.  He's more than brash.  His arrogance puts people off.  We get it.  You're undefeated (although you had some close calls) and you have stinkin' mountain of money.  I know...I know...sounds like I have sour grapes.  Besides probably no one can name an undefeated titan in their sport that is well like by the masses...*cough, cough* Ronda Rousey.

Manny got knocked the f*** out

December 8th, 2012.  It's the punch that will live in infamy. Juan Manual Marquez landed the perfect punch that made Pacquiao (unintentionally) a social media name.  Who doesn't remember Instagram Memes like...

or especially this one

Manny Pacquiao has blemishes on his record while Floyd is undefeated.  So you know what that makes him? Yep, the underdog.  Who doesn't love a good underdog?  Rocky, Gabby Douglas, Seabiscuit, and of course Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman...what? She was an underdog.  Manny is no different.  Even if Floyd does not remind you of Goliath, compare Manny to the brand and bravado of Money Mayweather and he certainly seems like David.  And we know how that story ended...

Manny is not on steroids

Although this fight is clearly hyped. We all know it's not a big as it would have been 3 years ago.  Why didn't it happen then? Mayweather and his camp's allegation that Pacquiao was on performance enhancing drugs.  Now I don't know if he was or was not.  I'm certainly not checking urine samples and I honestly don't care.  At this point, he had to be tested and he is clear.  Because if he wasn't, Floyd wouldn't be in the ring with him.  Seriously Floyd is about the money and this fight will bring him the money...but he is also all about his legacy.  If he could make the most money and be undefeated, Floyd (and I'm assuming others) would place him in the talk of one of the all-time greats.  Now why is that a catalyst for why I am cheering for Manny...there will be no excuses if Pacquiao wins.  No fingers to point.  No crying for all to hear.  It will be nothing.  No excuses.

So there it is.  This is why I'm routing for Manny.  Does he legitimately have a shot? The odds are against him.  But I'm definitely gonna be in his corner.

But those are just my thoughts...right or wrong...just what I'm feeling at the time!!!
